Yoga Classes

A balanced yoga practice that includes both stretching and strengthening—active and restorative practices—is ideal. Most students experience the greatest mind-body benefits by incorporating a range of sessions like Restorative Yoga and Flow or Hatha Yoga into their routines.

“Without action, we lack opportunities for changing our old ways and we increase our self-will rather than lessen it; without contemplation, we lack the strength to change and are blown about by our conditioning.” –Eknath Easwaran

The below classes are roughly listed in order from LEAST to MOST physically active, although they can vary a bit based on the instructor.

*Starred classes are appropriate for most beginning students. PLEASE NOTE: Even if it works best for your schedule, we do NOT recommend flow for your very first yoga class; please consider starting with a different class or private sessions.

Restorative Yoga*
You’ll ease into each pose and focus particularly on cleansing breathing and meditation techniques in this relaxing class. We spend most of our time in floor-oriented postures, staying in each one long enough to allow for truly restorative opening. This slower-paced session, which includes some yin postures, can be a great introduction to a slower practice or provide much-needed self-care. Dressing in light layers is recommended.

Yoga Basics*
A friendly in-studio class for those new to yoga or seeking grounding in yoga fundamentals. This class offers physical postures, meditation, and breathwork each week, helping students to make the practices work for them.

Back Care Plus*
Enjoy smart stretching and strengthening with safe (and totally customizable) techniques for the whole spine, from the low back all the way to the neck—PLUS the rest of the body! Learn to move through all your daily activities with less pain and greater ease, and even pick up effective relaxation strategies along the way. Appropriate for students of all levels; patients of Whole Chiropractic are especially encouraged to attend to support their rehab efforts.

Gentle Yoga*
A little bit of movement, a lot of relaxation and practice being present! This class is wonderful for yogis (and non-yogis!) of all levels.

Hatha Yoga*
Improve your technique while learning about the practice of yoga as a whole! This well-balanced class is different every time, but you can expect yoga's characteristic stretching and strengthening, stress relief, and experience of moving toward greater well-being. This active yet accessible class is appropriate for most students.

Yin Yoga + Meditation
Combine the deep tissue work of yin yoga postures with meditative practice. Props like blankets and bolsters fully support the art of letting go.

Yoga Flow, or Vinyasa
“Vinyasa” is usually translated as “flow,” and the term refers to linking breath with movement. Each posture flows into the next in a meditative stream. Increase strength, flexibility, endurance, and—above all—centeredness as you build movements based on sun salutation series. Both modifications and challenges to the poses are available to make the class appropriate for varying levels of practice, although students should generally expect a faster pace and fewer detailed instructions in this format.

Yin Yang Yoga
Vinyasa flow PLUS yin stillness—a perfect balanced combo we all need in our lives. Our instructors always offer variations to enable you to ramp up or dial back the physical aspects of the practice, so classes are appropriate for a range of students. Come as you are to move and breathe!

Pilates and Fitness Classes

When you practice with us, you’ll experience pilates as safe and effective mind-body exercise using a floor mat or small equipment. This innovative system evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates and can dramatically transform the way your body feels and performs. Pilates builds strength, focusing on the core, which means your entire midsection—front, back, and sides. This accessible work teaches body awareness, good posture, and easy, graceful movement. Pilates also improves flexibility and agility, and the practice can even alleviate back pain when practiced regularly.

These classes are all suitable for beginners. Just let your instructor know that you're new to practice; they will likely offer you options to help modify the exercises while you become accustomed to them.

Mat Pilates
You will work AND have fun with the classical beginner/intermediate floor series. Our instructors draw on the most respected pilates traditions (Power Pilates, Stott, and more) to continually refine and challenge the body's movement patterns. We sometimes use props, and we always emphasize the incredible core strengthening and grace that make pilates so popular. Pilates is a wonderful complement to your yoga practice, or great mind-body work on its own.

Barre
Pilates-inspired movements combine with ballet, strength, and yoga techniques to create a challenging yet accessible workout to balance and stabilize your joints. We occasionally use a highback chair or countertop in place of a ballet barre and often incorporate light weights as well as mat work. A great way for students of all experience levels to balance, strengthen, and have fun!

Pilates Fitness Express
Key pilates principles and exercises, fused with the functional training techniques and incorporated into a moderately intense workout oriented to overall fitness. This class often includes more standing postures than classical pilates. It's a great way for students of all experience levels to really get moving!

PIlates on the Ball
A twist on classical pilates, with all kinds of balls for a unique whole-body challenge: Large stability balls, medicine balls, and weighted balls build strength in your muscles and bones while increasing circulation, balance, and coordination.

Wake Up Pilates Express
This morning pilates session will energize you all day long. Class combines classical pilates with other fitness modalities like aerobics and stretching, all in a 30-minute express format.

Functional Fitness Foundations (3F)
MINDFUL STRENGTH TRAINING! Each session incorporates functional movements like squats, pulls, and pushes with minimal equipment (dumbbells, resistance bands) and bodyweight exercises. Learn more about resistance training with variations and modifications for your body! Every session will also include mobility drills, cardiovascular intervals, and a calming cool-down to energize you for your day. *Weather permitting, portions of this class may take place outside. Please bring sturdy sneakers and a water bottle!
